End Childhood Homelessness
Building Brighter Futures: Cuidando Los Niños Expansion Initiative
Breaking the Cycle of Childhood Homelessness in New Mexico
Cuidando Los Niños (CLN) is at the forefront of addressing child and family homelessness in Albuquerque.
Through early childhood education, case management, supportive housing, rapid rehousing, and parent education, we provide comprehensive care and life-changing support for over 400 individuals annually. But we’re at capacity, and the need for these services is greater than ever.
Why We Need Your Support
Homeless children and families in New Mexico face significant barriers to stability and success. CLN’s expansion project will:
Increase our classroom capacity, adding space for 115% more children in our infants and toddler rooms, addressing bottlenecks in our waitlist. Our 1:4 adult-to-child ratio exceeds industry standards, ensuring every child receives personalized, trauma-informed care.
Enhance safety with a more secure entry and a separate kitchen facility.
Increase services, including rotating specialists and on-site behavioral health support.
Support entire families, not just children, with resources like addiction recovery and life skills training.
How You Can Help
We are seeking a $2M appropriation to complete this critical expansion.
With your support, we can:
Build three new classrooms and upgrade facilities.
Provide trauma-informed care in a safe, supportive environment.
Strengthen our mission to break the cycle of homelessness for families in New Mexico.
Join us in making a systemic impact.
Together, we can ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive.

More Details
We’re proud to share that we’ve already raised over $4M through state and federal appropriations, private grants (including the MacKenzie Scott Grant), and individual donors.
The City of Albuquerque has contracted an architect, and the design process for our expansion is well underway. This funding request will allow us to complete the project and serve even more families in need.

Family Testimonial
“I just want to say this program has given me a chance at being a mom again. This is the first place my daughter and I have ever been able to call home together and she is 16. I am so thankful for the apartment, the furniture, the Thanksgiving dinner, our Christmas presents and just know Kara and the staff is always checking on us. It feels really good to have been a part of this program especially at a time when I felt like I had very little options and felt very alone in this city where we have no family. Thank you so much for helping us!”
Family Testimonial
“As a mother of four, Cuidando Los Niños has been a lifesaver for me and my family. Four years ago, I was in a tough place, struggling after separating from my children’s father and not knowing where to turn. Through my doctor’s office, I found Cuidando, and it changed everything for us.
The childcare program has been a game-changer. Without it, I couldn’t have gone back to work or provided for my family. Childcare is so expensive, and being able to rely on Cuidando allowed me to focus on building a better future for my kids.
Cuidando is more than just a resource—it’s a family. The staff and teachers create a welcoming, supportive environment that feels like home. For someone who grew up without stability, it means so much to know my children have a place where they feel safe and cared for.
This organization has been the foundation for our stability and hope. They’ve given me the support I needed to keep going, and my kids the foundation they need to thrive. I’m so thankful for everything Cuidando has done to help us get to a better place.”
